A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN THRIVE
Equine Assisted ASD THRIVE Program Benefits:
As reported by Parents of our ASD THRIVE, program participants:
What is ASD THRIVE?
Horse Therapy Centre of Canada’s ASD THRIVE program is a supportive program developed for our ASD clients who require support and who may not be a good fit for our traditional Equine Assisted Therapy program. ASD THRIVE participants are identified as having a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder Levels 2 & 3.
ASD THRIVE gives participants a safe space to enjoy our therapy horses in the way that they need. Some clients like to walk, groom, pet, and feed the horses, while others like to just be near the horses.
Accompanied by their caregiver and our staff, participants will have a chance to experience the benefits of Equine Assisted Therapy while experiencing horses in a way that is individually therapeutic to them.
Natural Learning Opportunities & Outcomes
Parents / Caregivers of ASD participants have reported that their Level 2 / Level 3 ASD child have experienced incredible benefits of participating in our program, which many traditional ASD therapy programs may not provide. These include:
Non-verbal participants saying horses' names, 'horse', 'woah', 'walk', and more
Seeing physical affection towards horses when previously non-responsive to physical affection
Sleeping through the night
More calm behaviours after their ASD THRIVE sessions
Decrease in self-stims
Increased social skills such as eye contact, appropriate facial expressions, and touching
Overall increased mood
Less biological 'accidents' (bed wetting)
Increased coordination
Increased attention
