What is the Difference Between Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)?
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a learning modality which incorporates horses for learning outcomes. It focuses on teaching psychosocial skills such as communication, active listening, leadership, teamwork and much more.
Equine Assisted Therapy is a mental health treatment that focuses on helping mental health clients overcome and heal their emotional health, mental health and behavioural issues. Equine Assisted Therapy can ONLY be preformed by a licensed mental health professional and not an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator.
While Equine Assisted Learning Activities a can help clients with emotional, mental and behavioural health issues, it is not a therapy and cannot be advertised as such.
What are the Benefits of Being Certified as an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator?
Ok, so you know horses, right? Do you know how to lead a group course of teenagers and teach them how to engage in teamwork? Do you know what to look out for when a family of 5 comes to learn how to communicate better? Are you versed in working with one on one clients who are seeking specific outcomes? Do you know how to develop and launch successful programs and a successful business? Maybe not, right?
Horse Therapy Centre of Canada leads an extensive Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator Training that will teach you how to confidently do all of the above things, and more! Plus, having a certification in the field shows your future clients that you are professional, trained and that they can trust you.
H.T.C.C Model
H.T.C.C. teaches three approaches to Equine Assisted Learning to equip all graduates with the skills that they will need to provide services to all client populations:
• One-to-One – including a Facilitator, client, and equine partner
• One-to-Many – including a Facilitator, group of clients, and equine partner(s)
• Group – including two (2) or more Facilitators, group of clients, and equine partner(s)
H.T.C.C. Model of Equine Assisted Learning does not include horseback riding. Graduates will learn how to facilitate on-ground learning programs using deliberate ‘games’ to create effective experiences for their clients. All certification programs with H.T.C.C. include:
• 15 ground only ‘games’ to use with clients
• 3 group program plans
• Specific examples for incorporating common Life Skills Lessons into Equine Assisted Learning Sessions
H.T.C.C. Model of Equine Assisted Learning focuses on facilitating client growth through EAL Facilitation and teaching Psychoeducational material. Graduates will be equipped with training, activities and worksheets to teach basic psychoeducational material such as:
• Communication
• Connection
• Self-Esteem building
• Vulnerability
• Respect
• Conflict Management
• Emotional Management
• Positive Thinking
• Teamwork
• Confidence
Why are we different?
Horse Therapy Centre of Canada is much different from other training programs that are available. You will learn directly from real, experienced and highly specialized Equine Assisted Therapists. We will teach you how to analyze and ‘read’ situations, when to jump in to help and when to let things flow naturally. We are more trained, more experienced and more able to teach our alumni how to teach psychosocial skills properly and effectively.
Why should you choose us?
H.T.C.C. is an authority in the Equine Assisted Therapy sector. We have a well-established practice that is widely recognized within the professional and client communities throughout North and South America. Beside the extensive and professional training that you will receive from our programs, you will also be certified with our name behind you. You will go home knowing that you have a strong organization backing you up.
Seek Approval to Take the Program
All participants in our EAL Certification need to be experienced horse people. We require that the participants in our programs have a minimum of 300 hours of direct horse handling experience in the last 3 years. In order to ensure that participants meet this eligibility, we ask all participants to fill in this approval form.
Don’t have horse handling experience? No problem! We have a 3-day intensive course and a monitoring program for our participants who want to work with horses but need the experience. Fill in the form below and we will contact you to discuss (more info below).
