Equine Assisted Therapist (Mental Health)
Within the context of a client and family-centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, provides services to youth, adults and families including psychoeducational programs to individuals, groups and families. Facilitates psychoeducational group and one-on-one equine-assisted learning programs for youth, adults and families; establishes trust with clients and engages them at their level of readiness for learning. Collaborates and consults with colleagues and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor Degree or Masters Degree in Social Work.
- Three (3) years’ recent, related experience counselling children, youth or adults or equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
- Five (5) years’ recent, related experience with the handling and direct care of horses.
- Current Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and reliable vehicle.
REQUIRED: Registration with OSWSSW, OASW or equivalent.
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of trauma, mental health, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Human Trafficking, Children protective services, at-risk populations
- Demonstrated true enjoyment working with children and ability to maintain high energy, enthusiasm, creativity and enhanced play skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of Equine handling and care.
- Comprehensive experience with Equine animals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of emotional intelligence theories.
- Comprehensive knowledge of conflict resolution and communication skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills.
- Broad knowledge of the normal growth and development.
- Broad knowledge of criminal, family and immigration court procedures.
- Broad knowledge of local social programs.
- Broad knowledge of the Children protective services, group homes and treatment facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct group educational and counselling programs and to facilitate open conversations within such.
- Ability to develop non-judgmental client relationships with clients from a spectrum of demographics, who may or may not be experiencing mental health challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with youth, adults, educational personnel, court service providers, colleagues, lawyers, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
- Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within group or one-on-one setting.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.

- Flexible schedule that include varying shifts, including day-time, evening and weekend hours.
Duties:
- Completes comprehensive intake with client, family and workers,
- Develops treatment plan based on initial intake,
- Delivers planned activities/programs in individual and group settings, at our Equine Therapy and Wellness Centre,
- Independently attends and facilitates said programs and counselling sessions.
- Independently schedules and facilitates said programs and counselling sessions.
- Must be able to prioritize client load to make sure that all clients are meeting individual agency expectations – if applicable to the client.
- Write and send reports for agency, court and employment purposes – if applicable to the client.
- Co-facilitate programs on an as-needed basis.
- Care for equine partner before and after programs and sessions (feed, water, pick stalls/paddocks, groom, training and exercise included).

Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator

Education & Experience:
- Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator Certification
- 3 or more years of experience in Equine Assisted Learning Facilitation
- 3 or more years of horse experience
- PT(A), OT(A), ECE, designations welcome
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and reliable vehicle.
- Asset: Entrepreneurial experience, or equivalent self-starting position.
- Asset: Ability to change output to meet client’s needs and/or ability.
- Asset: Comprehensive knowledge/experience with Indigenous context in Canada.

Instructor Therapist
Provides services to kids, adults, and families, including ABA / IBI treatment, within the framework of a client and family-centered care model and in compliance with recognized standards of professional practice, as well as the organization’s mission and values. Establishes trust with clients and engages them at their degree of readiness for change. Collaborates with coworkers and supervisors, and takes part in quality improvement projects.
Education & Experience:
- Previous experience working with the special needs’ population, specifically those diagnosed with Austim Spectrum Disorder.
- Bachelor’s Degree or currently enrolled in a University program related to Behavioural Science, Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, or Early Childhood Development (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of direct ABA experience (required)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
- Valid First Aid/CPR Level C (required)

Registered Behaviour Technician
Begin the direct implementation of treatment strategies for skill acquisition and behavior modification. Collect data and offer assistance as required. Participates in quality improvement projects with coworkers and managers. When necessary, give a safe area for non-therapeutic individuals to experience our therapy horses in the way that they require.
Education & Experience:
- Complete the 40-hour RBT training course.
- Complete the initial assessment of competency.
- Applied/Received RBT certification from BACB.
- Five (5) years’ recent, related experience with the handling and direct care of horses.
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and reliable vehicle.
- Asset: Entrepreneurial experience, or equivalent self-starting position.
- Asset: Ability to change output to meet client’s needs and/or ability.

Program Staff

- Professional education and experience in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Therapy, or similar training.

Barn Staff
Complete stable management chores including feeding, mucking stalls, turn in/out, and general stable care as directed by the Barn Manager. Maintain clean and safe stable facilities, including feed rooms, stalls, hallways, arena, paddocks, pathways, and loft spaces. Assist the Barn Manager and/or Executive Director with program and horse-related activities, workshops, or clinics. Ensure the health and well-being of all animals. Maintain a pleasant and professional manner at all times when on duty or representing HTCC.

- Minimum of 2 years of direct horse handling and care experience (required)
